To create the vivid, impressionistic gradations of line and hue in her recent pastel portrait “Prism” (2020), she used a set of crayons purchased from Henri Roché’s La Maison du Pastel—a centuries-old shop in Paris once frequented by Edgar Degas—as a tribute to the French artist’s chromatic and atmospheric ingenuity. Another new work, “Virtual,” is presented on gagosian.com at part of Artist Spotlight. This oil-on-canvas self-portrait was made by the artist to commemorate her fiftieth birthday earlier this year.
