My sisters, God bless them...They are just good. . Earlier last month my sisters and I walked our Grandmother home to Heaven. Us three girls, who my grandmother raised as her own, were by her bed side listening to her favorite Christian hymn as she took her last breaths. We cried and hugged and cried. She was so brave and as graceful in her death as she’d always been in life. My sisters were too. . . What came next was almost harder than having to say goodbye to our GrandMOM. We drove to our childhood home and had to walk into our house without her there. We cried and hugged and cried some more and then began the process of dismantling 70+ years of her life. Everything in our house was important to my grandma, it was a sacred place. My closet filled to the top with boxes of my life; kindergarten diplomas and love letters from high school, cards from after my accident, so many pictures and books and books of print outs that my gramma collected of all of our accomplishments. She saved everything, she really loved us. . . My sister Jovan did what she does best... logistics. She somehow managed the estate (bank transfers, the trust, funeral arrangements... etc.) and juggled a demanding work load. My younger sister Julianne also managed to work full time, design a beautiful funeral bulletin, throw a 1st birthday party and help me chase Gunnar around as we packed up a whole house full of memories. . It took the better part of two weeks and by the end of it, it was just us three and Gunnar... sleeping on air mattresses in an empty house. We cried and hugged and cried some more when I left to fly home. . It’s hard to put into words how much my sisters mean to me. We’ve done many hard things together from Gunnars birth to our Grandmothers death and everything in between. Our bond it stronger than anything.
