The US Food and Drug Administration added to its list of hand sanitizers to avoid on July 31, expanding the list to over 100. The FDA first warned consumers about hand sanitizers containing methanol, which can be toxic if ingested or absorbed through the skin. This warning led to various products being recalled or pulled from store shelves. Now, the agency warns against hand sanitizers with less than 60% ethyl or isopropyl alcohol, both active ingredients in the products.
