Photo by @spencerlowell_ // With a firm yet delicate grip, a robot hand at the Robotics and Biology Laboratory at the Technical University of Berlin picks up a flower with its pneumatic fingers. Recent advances have brought robots closer than ever to mimicking human abilities.

I spent the better part of a year traveling through Europe, Japan and America photographing robots for a story that’s out now in the September 2020 issue of National Geographic. This image was one of the first shots that I took on the first day of shooting.
