Photo by Prasenjeet Yadav @prasen.yadav The Nilgiri tahr is a mountain ungulate that is endemic to the sky islands of the Western Ghats of India. It is found in open montane grassland habitats at elevations of 1,200 to 2,200 meters (3,900 to 7,200 feet). The forests open into grasslands interspersed with patches of stunted forests, locally known as sholas.
