Big Love (2010), screenprint with glaze, relates to the artist's iconic Butterfly Colour Paintings series, conceived in the late 80s. In painting and printmaking, love and butterflies are some of his most recognisable motifs. For the artist, the appeal of butterflies is created largely by the appearance of life which they retain in death. On their recurring appearance in his work, he explains: 'I think rather than be personal you have to find universal triggers: everyone's frightened of glass, everyone's frightened of sharks, everyone loves butterflies.'⠀
