The water was picked up moments earlier in a designated area on the Gironde river, near Bordeaux, France. The helicopter indicates the area where to drop the water by pointing its nose to it. Firefighters specialists inside the helicopter help guide the Canadair pilots over the radio. This is part of an ongoing global story for National Geographic magazine on the issue of Air Pollution.
