Photo by @joshuacogan / As we traveled from Paro to Thimphu through the mountains, we were gifted the service and companionship of horses and mules that carried our gear along with us. This is no easy job for these pack animals; they travel dozens of miles through steep and foreboding terrain. In the mornings and the evenings, grazing on the fresh mountain meadows seemed to be some sort of reward at least. I don’t know that it was fair compensation for their tireless service, but they seemed somewhat pleased to have these uncrowded mountain meadows all to themselves.
