To match her shoes to her skin tone, Black professional ballerina Ingrid Silva used to paint her preferred brand, Chacott, with foundation.
Silva is from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She moved to New York City at the age of 18 to train with the Dance Theatre of Harlem, where she is now a principal company member. In 2017, Silva founded EmpowHerNY, an international women's empowerment platform, and she also mentors ballerinas who are women of color.
This pointe shoe is from the pair she wore during her 2013-2014 season, now in our @nmaahc's collection. Chacott made a shoe in Silva’s skin color in 2019. #BecauseOfHerStory #MuseumFromHome
