This oasis was filled with scientists, students, and volunteers conducting an endless array of studies on the local flora and fauna. After settling in, I wandered the grounds and admired the varied birdcalls echoing in the fading sun. A group of new friends invited me to a sunset swim at the spring-fed pool on the grounds. The water was a welcome reprieve from the sweltering heat. I slipped my feet in and felt the joy that only a refreshing dip after a long day of driving can provide.
