Photos by @MichaelGeorge / October 2019, 5:30 a.m. The river is so faint it might be a mirage. I am one of three people half awake in the observation car. The smell of instant coffee grows in strength from down below as the forest around us reveals itself. The blues and blacks become fireworks of orange and yellow. Many more people arrive as the sun does as well. We begin taking shifts, allowing new people to sit down and enjoy the view. You try not to linger too long, though all you want to do is press your face to the glass and slip into a daydream. These are scenes on the VIA Rail from Montreal to Halifax.
