The elegant, simple design made moon jars popular in Korea during the 17th and 18th centuries for storing food and displaying flowers. By the mid-20th century they had become known as moon jars because of their form, and how their shape and colour change when seen from different angles. Ceramic artist Park Young-sook made this example in 2005.
