In other parts of China, where people generally believe the death counts to be reasonably accurate, far fewer deaths have been reported. In all of Guangdong Province—population 113 million—the death toll is eight. In Beijing, only nine coronavirus deaths have been reported. In Xiaogan, the second-hardest-hit Chinese city, 129 people died. But in Wuhan, where the official death toll is 3,869, experts believe the actual figure is significantly higher.
