Looking into three distinct movement patterns when climbing a rope:
1 - brachiation,
where the lift of the center of gravity is achieved not only by pulling action of the arms, but also hip and leg actions facilitating transfer of momentum and inertia effects. Ideally, hip and leg actions support reaching for the next grip, controlling it, all the way to initiating momentum for the next move. Eric Lopez has a cool pattern going on before he has to shift to pattern 2!
Interlimb timing is crucial here and often the reason for not being able to realize full potential.
Also watch out for differences / similarities of both sides of your body!
For all the neural factors at play, rope climbing is some of the best practice a climber can do!
2 -  brachiation is very strenuous, so using both legs makes rope climbing more economical. You loose stimulating each hemisphere of the brain independently though, so for training, brachiation seems better.
3 - deliberately NOT using hip and leg actions to facilitate transfer of momentum and inertia effects in hope to develop more upper body pulling strength this way. Needless to say, I’m not a fan.
