Every single time I lift up off the ground in Mayurasana feels like a miracle. This was one of the hardest asanas for me and I guess I carry a memory of all those years of trying and failing. But it never ceases to amaze me that I am actually off the ground.

This is one of the easier ways of getting your feet off the ground. By bending the knees and focusing on firming your abdomen you can more easily transfer a bit of weight forward into the arms. Even though the legs are lifted it’s not useful to think of this as a backbend. Instead, this of Mayurasana as an arm balance and use your shoulders and core.
