Video by @babaktafreshi / Sound on. It’s a unique experience to be under natural night skies. You truly feel that you are on spaceship Earth traveling in the vast ocean of the universe. You feel connected to the past and future of this planet. It’s unfortunate that this is not visible to most people due to light pollution.

I was on the ocean shoreline near Christchurch, New Zealand, last October. The Milky Way’s galactic core was sinking toward the water as I was warming my hands by a fire left from fishermen. The brightest point reflecting on the ocean is Jupiter, against a dark nebula known as the Pipe, which also forms a celestial kiwi, New Zealand's national bird.
