Flemish painter Frans Snyders, who was born on this day in 1579, was the leading animal painter of his time. He was a friend and close collaborator of Peter Paul Rubens painting the great eagle featured in the famous work “Prometheus Bound.” Snyders was also a skilled still life painter, as you can see in this work, which shows off his talent for using a variety of colors, textures, and forms.
