Happy Thanksgiving from this Australian brush-turkey @sylvanheights_birdpark. This species is the largest of Australia’s three megapodes, which is a family of birds that incubates its eggs in a large mound made from organic matter. The eggs are incubated by the heat given off by the rotten vegetation, and males of the species are responsible for ensuring that the mound stays at a constant temperature. They do this by digging holes in the mound and checking the heat by inserting their beak, then adding or removing vegetation as needed. #Thanksgiving #Thanksgiving2020 #turkey #brushturkey #Australian #megapode #PhotoArk #savetogether
