Photo by @DaisyGilardini / The Weddell Gyre, a huge system of rotating ocean currents in the northwest Weddell Sea in Antarctica, is known as one of the most treacherous, iceberg-filled seas in the world. Humongous tabular icebergs, calved from ice shelves, congregate northeast of the Antarctic Peninsula, where it enters the Antarctic Sound. Tabular icebergs are long and can be many kilometers wide. They’re characterized by flat tops and vertical sides, which lit beautifully during the warm evening light.
