Tasked with creating new products built within a circular model we were connected with the brilliant mind of Dr. Theanne Schiros who introduced to us her non-toxic cellular textile that is meant to serve as a leather substitute. We knew immediately we wanted to recreate one of our favorite sneaker silhouettes, the Chuck Taylor and incorporate the approach and energy of this “Bio-Leather.” Over the course of 6 months we worked closely with @theanne to learn about the process of growing cellulose textile and eventually creating these naturally-dyed, microbe-grown sneakers. We’re really proud, not only because all the parts are made from nanocellouse using waste as a regenerative resource and biodegradable cork outsole, but because we’re helping to the lay the groundwork for future designers to come up with alternative solutions to our industry’s wasteful ways. This is the first step of many to establish these seemingly experimental and unorthodox processes which will eventually go on to become standard practice for our industry.
