Within its nearly 1 million acres, Olympic National park is home to over 3,000 miles of rivers and 73 miles of wild coastline. It’s without a doubt one of the crowning jewels of the Pacific Northwest. It was granted #NationalPark status and protection in 1938, a controversy at the time heavily contested by the logging industry. 83 years later the park still stands, preserved and brings joy to the 3 million+ visitors annually that get to experience this intact ecosystem. It’s impossible to not feel something as you stare out into the pacific, look down from hurricane ridge or stare up at the old growth of the hog rainforest, the only rainforest in the continental United States. It’s important to remember that acts of leadership, both good and bad, effect the future. We need to stay cognizant of decisions being made in the present to ensure sustainability and well being for generations to come. These photos here were taken on assignment for @ナショナルジオグラフィック in 2016
