Although #HenryOssawaTanner made many visits to #London during his years as an expatriate living in France, this view of the Cannon Street railway bridge is the artist's only known London subject. The painting captures the diffuse light and color of the sky and water seen at twilight, and is painted in a brushy, impressionistic manner that seems informed by #JamesAbbottMcNeillWhistler's views of the Thames (from the 1860s) and his "Nocturnes" (from the 1870s).
