Photo by @thomas.nicolon // The rhino viper, at home in the forests of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, takes its name from the enlarged scales on its snout, which resemble horns. Rhino vipers are slow-moving, nocturnal, and difficult to spot amid leaf litter - they also have a powerful hemotoxic venom that breaks down tissues. You can read my story on the snakebite crisis in Africa in the @ナショナルジオグラフィック December 2020 issue. Follow me @thomas.nicolon for more stories about the interaction between humans and wildlife.
