Just a couple of days ago I posted about how I missed the people there and the time I spent covering a glimpse of what could be the beginning of a democracy after a half a century of isolation and repression by the military regime. When I lived there in 2015, it felt like a year of hope where the majority of Myanmar’s people would finally have a voice to decide their destiny. To little surprise and full of skepticism, a democratic election took place with the military agreeing to give partial power to the NLD, a political party made up of civilians. Today that dream and those hopes have been shattered by the actions of a regime which once again has proven that it cares not about its’ people, and rather reign with a furious iron fist than allow for people to live freely. My thoughts and energy goto all my friends in Myanmar. Stay strong as you always have.
