Today, the real fishermen have ditched the large, conical nets for a different technique: They set up nets underwater and then row to a different area while scaring the fish back into the nets. The performances are a win-win-win: Tourists get a glimpse into Inle Lake’s past, the performers have jobs (mostly working for tips), and the real fishermen benefit because the performers keep away the noisy tourist motorboats.
