Catharine Mi-Sookさんのインスタグラム写真 - (Catharine Mi-SookInstagram)「The Lunar New Year is tomorrow (today for some depending on time zone) and my family, both here and in South Korea, have celebrated this throughout my life. It is a tradition that I have also chosen to carry within my own life and family as well. I have a lot weighing on my thoughts these days, and have mostly kept quiet in these social media spaces regarding them. Health, joy & rest are bigger priorities at the moment, for myself, my child, my mother, my loved ones. We will commence new beginnings and a fresh rite tomorrow with a hearty traditional South Korean soup called Tteok Mandu Guk 만두국 and celebrate each other, what we are grateful for, and stories of relatives and ancestors among other festivities. Food is a love language in my family as my mother and uncles all survived a war together. The first time I ever met my uncles in South Korea involved the most decadent feast that I’ve ever had and it was their lavish way of pouring out love. I’ll never forget the time that my oldest uncle took me to a five star restaurant and ordered so many things on the menu only to watch me eat to my heart’s content with the warmest smile on his face before even so much as picking up his chopsticks for his first bite. These memories hold so much within them, these moments where we share a meal are so much more than a meal. They are history, tears, survival, sacrifice, presence and generations of love wrapped in a savory bite. I hold each of them in my heart and am so grateful for all of it, for a love offered that entailed much heartache, a love perfected and also a love very imperfect too, and a love with a richness that no treasure can match. I don’t know what the tomorrows of seasons hold, but I am thankful beyond any expression that I always have this gift from them to carry with me, a gift that has also carried me endlessly too. Happy Lunar New Year from my family to yours. 🎊 . . A rare sharing of a few family photos, including my Halmeoni 할머니, who was one of my most favorite people to walk the earth. She will always live among the roses to me.」2月12日 3時10分 - catharinemisook
