It took me so many years to finally SPEAK UP 🗣 Years of living in fear. Years of being judged. Years of so much pain…. It is so hard to deal with an abuser and other types of manipulators because they are masters at blame-shifting. When an abusive person plays the victim, the abuser gets to abuse the partner all over again. They can create a smear campaign to portray the true victim in a bad light. They paint the victim as being crazy or out of control. This leaves the victim feeling as if they have to defend themselves from the picture that the abuser paints. In this cycle, the victim is likely to “fight back” giving the appearance that they are indeed out of control. The abuser will have a circle of individuals who believe their story, that they defend them and lash out at the victim also.
