My generation grew up having to defend our honor and feeling “less than” the western teams (aka world) but their generation sees the victory and (hopefully) keeps that in mind with every step they take in life - I can win too, everything is possible. If you look at it from a sociological viewpoint this world cup feels like a decolonization, an uprising and the african/arab diaspora reclaiming our power. Having to face spain and portugal without any fear or nerves just shows the pride and reassurance the players have in themselves. We are not scared anymore of these so called “powers that be” it’s our time to shine and we’re not holding back one centimeter. Keep that energy when you are going out into the world, remember that pride when you got a job interview, channel your inner lion whenever you are in a space that’s unwelcoming because this is where you belong and you deserve to be here and take up as much space as anyone else.
