The baby jackals had their first vet visit today! Donna Stadtmore and her husband came over to meet the new kids, give them their first shot and start to create a bond with them. In review of current research, experiences from zoos, and our vet team, we decided to give the babies the Ferret Distemper shot, as this is recombinant vaccine vs the standard canine distemper shot which is a modified live vaccine. Some zoos have reported that the live canine distemper vaccine has reverted to virulence and caused distemper in their wild canids. For this reason and out of the abundance of caution, we selected to vaccinate the babies with a ferret distemper vaccine. We do the same with our foxes. The babies did awesome with their first shots and Donna and Paul provided positive reinforcement with bottle feeding and play time. The babies are still in a semi quarantine until we can get them their Parvo vaccine.

We want to thank Mikayla and Ethan from @saveafox_rescue for giving these babies such incredible love and socialization. These babies are so sweet and friendly. We know they are going to be amazing ambassadors and we know that little Shaka, Zuri, and Nalla will be love and joy to all that meet them!!
