Gerd Ludwigさんのインスタグラム写真 - (Gerd LudwigInstagram)「On this day, May 12th, 2023, we celebrate what would have been Joseph Beuys' 102nd birthday. Joseph Beuys was one of the most influential artists of the 20th century, known for his avant-garde approach to art and his radical ideas about society and politics. Beuys' artwork was highly conceptual and often incorporated unconventional materials, such as felt, fat, and honey. His work explored themes such as humanism, ecology, and democracy, and he believed that art could be a catalyst for social change. In 1978, I went on a journey with Joseph Beuys to the Lower Rhine, where I was able to experience Beuys as a playful and humorous individual, as seen in this photograph where he's laughing alongside art collector and farmer Leni van Heukelum. When Leni explained that only beautiful art hung in her house and therefore there is no Beuys to be found, Beuys couldn't help but burst into laughter. Regarding his local lower Rhine dialect and his knowledge of flora and fauna, she attested: “When you talk so intelligently, you then do such crazy things, I don't get it”, upon which he jokingly commented on her collection, “they are good disposable formats”, avoiding the term ‘pieces of art’. Perhaps it is because of his controversial ideas and unorthodox methods that Beuys is revered by the art community today. His legacy continues to inspire those who seek to use art as a means of engaging with the world and effecting change. Happy Birthday, Joseph Beuys! Keep an eye out for my upcoming book on Joseph Beuys by Edition Lammerhuber. @thephotosociety #beuys」5月12日 20時00分 - gerdludwig
