This is a man who's about to eat his words. And his mushrooms.
Biologist Merlin Sheldrake dipped this copy of his book about fungi into oyster mushroom spores, grew them on the book, and sautéed them in butter. Then, Merlin enjoyed his mushroomy meal.
On Barro Colorado Island, part of our @smithsonianpanama, Sheldrake studied one of the few flowering plants with no green parts and no ability to harness the power of sunlight. Instead, it gets nutrients by tapping into the underground web of fungi.
