"are you back to your pre baby weight?" I was asked recently by a stranger on a train with my baby.

Oh, I said. I don't know! I doubt it.

The truth is, I've not weighed myself for about a decade. Not because I'm triggered if I know the number, but I just really don't care. What does the number mean?

I can tell if I'm healthy or not from how I feel. I live a pretty balanced life - I love food, I like to move my body. And when I was looking at the scales every day wishing more of myself away, I wasn't healthy. And they say muscle weighs more than fat anyway. So it seems a bit of a pointless task.

So why do we ask the question? Why do we care? Why are we made to feel that our value is linked to how small we can make ourselves?

I mean there's a whole different conversation about how rank bounce back culture is after having a baby. Your body has just done this incredible thing - in some people's cases your body is still feeding your baby - just on the outside of you, and we aren't even given the grace of our bodies being able to heal.

But more to the point, I realised that the only time I've ever been asked about or judged for the numbers on a scale was when I was a model.

No one who has ever loved me has ever asked me how much I weigh or what size clothes I wear. People don't hang out with you because you lost 2 pounds.

And we won't care about those things either when we look back at our life on our deathbed.

Because our value and our worth has nothing to do with how much - or little - we weigh.

I'd like to think I'll be remembered for being kind, sometimes funny, being a good mum, working really really hard, at being empathetic, fiercely loyal, and trying to enjoy life as much as possible.

So when they asked if I'd lost my baby weight, I wish I'd just said no. Because having Alf and her have brought SO much into my life. I weigh 2 more people. And that is worth its weight in gold.

A reminder not to get caught up on the unimportant numbers. And not to get sucked into bounce back culture. ❤️🙏

You don't even need to LOVE your body, you can just appreciate what it's done for you and give it time to heal. 🫶
