Meet Vesper - a pallid bat I photographed @lindsaywildlife. Unlike other bat species that catch their prey while in flight, pallid bats catch almost all of their food on the ground. While on the ground, they travel using a variety of gaits and strides and put their oversized ears to work detecting the footsteps of their prey. Once they’ve secured their catch, these bats will fly to a nearby elevated location to safely consume their meal.
