We are joining the #WGA in striking because we want to bring more humanity back to an industry that in built on telling human stories. We recognize the need for people who watch the bottom line and save money, but we refuse to let that supersede the needs to the scores of hardworking actors in our industry who, due to the erosion of our residuals due to streaming, unreasonable holding periods and shorter and shorter work seasons, can no longer afford health insurance and basic living needs. For every A-list Hollywood powerhouse you see, there are thousands of “average” working actors putting in the blood and sweat because we love bringing you stories that matter to our society. The perception is that, if you’re on a recognizable show, you must have it made. If only that were the case! We are so grateful to do what we do, but we are increasingly unable to afford it because of contracts that don’t value us fairly in proportion to what the shows are bringing in for the networks.
