Designer @anninathermopolisrenaldi (Anna) makes distressed knitted garments with delicate features.

“My creations are often incorrectly perceived as fragile or that they’re about to break, a reaction which reminds me of prejudices in human relationships, where shyness, fragility or simply not conforming are judged as unstable and wrong. With my work I want to solidify the term distressing through the fabrics I use and show fragility as an act of courage and strength.”

Anna’s handmade knit creations are inspired by characters from medieval stories, fairies, heroines from mythology, rock star “It Girls” from the 1960s and 1970s — and by the dolls, dolls clothes, illustrated story books and religious upbringing of her small country-town childhood in northern Italy. “During the creation of each garment, I have a story or character in mind that keeps me motivated in the process that can take many days per piece.”

With her partner, Anna also runs the online boutique @j_adorable_shop (J’adorable), selling vintage and their own handmade clothes, plus pieces by other emerging designers. “We want to convey a style that is chic, sexy and cute, and encourage experimentation — and to not taking yourself too seriously.”
