ジェーン・パークさんのインスタグラム写真 - (ジェーン・パークInstagram)「It’s weird to think that Grace is turning three tomorrow. Many many thoughts cloud my head, but the one that shines the brightest is how far she has come. The milestones are not measured by physical or cognitive capabilities in this house, rather the quality of day she is having. There have been more good days lately and I’m thankful for every single one. But to be brutally honest, even the good days are hard. Maybe it’s the fact that every memory I pick up going forward, whether joyful or indifferent, will be seen through a gossamer lens of grief. I heard a toddlers voice behind me in the grocery store, and his words “I love you mama” cut through me like a knife. His tone of voice sounded a lot like Grace’s. A toddler about a year younger than Grace came by our bench at the gym and grabbed Grace’s floatie with two hands and walked so steadily towards her mom. I smiled and said “good job!” I realized after a few seconds that this little girl probably mastered walking a while ago, and to that mom the praise may seem unnecessary. She glanced at Grace draped in my aunts arms. The pity in that moms eyes was brutal, with ruthless clarity. The stabs to the heart will no doubt continue for as long as I’m breathing, but I’ll always try to center myself in gratitude. Grateful for the time that I’m able to spend with Grace, using my heart and mind as a receptacle for every memory worth saving. Grateful that at times, life somehow settles down to a reverberating hum after going through an intense bout. Grateful that we’ve made it to another birthday. Thank you all for loving us in our many forms. Thank you for finding your way to this random swatch of humanity. It’s always my honor sharing my rawest and realest thoughts with you. Tomorrows celebrations will no doubt be a shrink wrapped version of last years, but she will be loved no less.
