This week’s #thisisthewaywednesday is for all of you who create #fanart, so please tag your favorite artist in the comments below 👇 Last weekend at @ozcomiccon in Brisbane, I had the absolute joy of meeting @lauralozano , a Colombian airbrush artist traveling the world to find opportunities to create. She was not selling any artwork at the show, but was there to represent a paint company. Laura had time and materials, so she created a STUNNING airbrush piece depicting that character I play from that show we all love (ahem…#sagaftrastrong). She spoke to me of her love for the character and for what she represents as a woman. She told me about the difficulties she has faced as a woman creating in a male-dominated medium. Hearing her story, I could see why she would feel that connection to my character. Laura was by no means the only incredible artist at that show— if you’ve never checked out @stewartmckenny’s work, GO. Stewart has his own story and his own challenges…and of course there were countless more…and that’s just one show. When I think about the myriad artists I’ve met at conventions or seen online who have spilled their blood, sweat and tears to create art centered around the stories they read or see in movies and TV, I am completely humbled. It is no easy job to set up a table at a convention in a faraway city and hope folks will notice the vulnerability and care you put into your art. You’re making an offering, and that takes guts.
