"The early morning winter fog always sparks inspiration in me, prompting me to venture out and capture the moody winter aesthetic. On this particular occasion, I found myself photographing an abandoned jetty near a nearby lake, taking full advantage of the thick fog to create a minimalist scene. My primary focus for this shot revolved around certain key elements. By making clever use of negative space, I aimed to draw attention to the jetty itself, which was further emphasized by the emptiness of the fog, ultimately guiding the viewer's eye towards a group of swans. It took a fair amount of patience (quite some time, in fact), but I managed to capture three swans in a row, adhering to the rule of odds to achieve visual balance. The essence of this photo lies in its leading lines, prominent subjects, compelling narrative, and soft, muted lighting that perfectly encapsulates the atmosphere of a fog-shrouded morning. I believe it distils the very essence of such a morning into a visual narrative. Given the overcast conditions and the subdued lighting, I made the deliberate choice to use a higher ISO setting of 4000 and set the aperture to f/3.2. This decision not only helped guide the viewer's focus but also accentuated the overall aesthetic of the scene. Even in challenging conditions like these, I can always rely on my trusty Z 6 to deliver the dynamic range necessary to ensure I can capture mornings like this just as I envision them."
