#Extinct in the wild, this Micronesian kingfisher chick is one of 129 birds left in captivity and was born on Jan. 1 at the Smithsonian’s Conservation Biology Institute. Animal care staff are hand-raising the chick, which involves feeding it at two-hour intervals, seven to eight times per day.
