I didn't choose dance. Dance chose me. I have never loved anything as much as I love ballet. I love that it is always a challenge, I love that there is always so much to learn, and I love that you can use the artistic side of dance to express yourself. Although I've sometimes questioned my potential in ballet, I have never considered quitting dance seriously.
This summer I will be attending SAB. My goal there is too solidify my knowledge of the Balanchine technique, which is my favorite style of ballet (if you can't tell by my username). I also want to improve my jumping. I want to solidify my double tours, since I am pretty bad at them and they really are a crucial part of ballet for men.
The only thing I don't really like about ballet is how much it's becoming about tricks and less about artistry. In the words of Ashley Bouder, "you need to technique to do some of the roles, but without artistry you can't be a ballerina". (That was kinda a paraphrase, sorry). In the end, ballet is an art form and not a sport, so the most important aspect of being a ballet dancer is artistry.
