Photo: @Keith Ladzinski Caption: @andrewbisharat To climbers, 'tufas,' or 'colonettes,' are some of the most desirable features of rock. Specific to limestone, tufas are formed by mineral deposits where run-off or seepage occurs. They are like stalactites that grow out of a vertical wall, providing a striking, obvious path upward. Climbing a tufa involves pinching it with your hands, squeezing it between two feet, and sometimes even pressing your knee against it to take a rest. Perhaps the most famous tufa in the world is located here in Verdon Gorge of southern #France on a route named 'Tom et Je Ris'. This plumb singular tufa runs a full 60 meters down an overhanging wall, and draws climbers from around the world--like @mattsegal and @エミリー・ハリントン (belaying)--who dream of ascending the perfectly endless line. #verticalorigins #bonverdon @etteloc @3stringsproductions
