Today is Harvey Milk Day. It is a day for celebration and reverence, and to honor a man who means so much to the LGBT movement and to all civil rights. Men and women from across the globe will spend today remembering Harvey Milk, who was tragically assassinated on November 27, 1978 in San Francisco.
Harvey Milk was one of the first openly gay politicians in the United States. He was a strong and vocal instrument for change and inspired people to stand up for themselves and to be proud of who they are and who they love. He united and advocated for all minorities and encouraged them to become involved in politics.

I plan on spending today thinking about the importance of Harvey Milk's work and how he has impacted me and the work I strive to do today. "Hope will never be silent."
