This ancient plant is 2,000 years old, and despite how it looks, it only has two leaves. Each leaf started growing two millennia ago -- sometime around 14 A.D. -- and the plant will never shed them. Years of wear leave them in this messy heap, but they are still attached and growing today. It lives in coastal Namibia, and artist Rachel Sussman (@_sussman_) has traveled to every continent to find the world’s oldest living things. She approaches each image as a portrait. “These organisms have so much character,” she says. “In some way, they are all individuals.” To see more of the world's oldest living things, visit on.ted.com/twoleaves
