The Road to the Outer Banks: Summertime has come and half the East Coast it seems is headed for the cool crystal waters and unspoiled beaches of North Carolina's Outer Banks. A few words of advice: Don't come on Saturday afternoon unless you feel like wasting the day away in a 30-mile traffic jam. Stop at one of the many farmers' markets on the way down and load up on fresh local peaches, tomatoes, sweet corn, and watermelon. Look both ways before you cross the beach road. Wear flip-flops to avoid burning your feet on the sand. Be nice to people--you're in the South now. Use sunscreen. Unplug. Kick back. And last but not least, keep the beach clean!
