photo by @chamiltonjames (Charlie Hamilton James) a north American river otter checks me out in a small lake near Jackson Hole, Wyoming. This otter is one of a family of three who I spent this afternoon with. They were very accepting of my presence despite being completely wild. I spent about half an hour watching them underwater in a crystal clear lake. I've spent over twenty years filming and photographing otters underwater; it's tricky but incredibly rewarding. Today was by far the most amazing encounter I've had. I spent some time shooting images of them on the surface grooming, playing and eating a nice big cutthroat trout. Shot on assignment for a National Geographic magazine special issue on the Greater Yellowstone Eco-system. #otters #photosociety
