What were your motivations back then? A: Mashable has always been at the forefront of digital culture. Instagram was an exciting new platform, and the potential to tell stories visually through it was apparent from its inception. ________________________________________ Q: How relevant is Instagram for a technology and social media website like yours? A: Instagram is incredibly relevant. It’s a powerful platform on which we can share our community’s talent and our editorial team’s hard work. We know our audience is there and active, so it’s a natural place for us to be as well. ________________________________________ Q: What strategies do you use to attract new Instagram followers and keep them engaged? A: All the growth on our account has been organic. My favorite type of engagement to see is our followers tagging their own friends in the comments of our posts. Since sharing is next to impossible on Instagram, this behavior indicates to me that what we’re posting is really reaching people, and expansion based on those merits means more to me than just an influx of less-engaged followers. That said, I think our hosted #MashPics community challenges have done a great job at expanding our reach. They provide a substantive opportunity for our audience to have its photos looked at and possibly critiqued by an influential photographer with a great eye, while opening our doors to that influencer’s circle as well. ________________________________________ Q: Work aside, what are your 3 accounts you recommend following?
