What were your motivations back then? Why did you choose to join Instagram? A: Movember’s a visual brand. We get men to grow moustaches, and these Mo’s act as our hairy ribbon, a tool for raising funds and awareness for men’s health. Our Mo Bros (the guys who grow moustaches) are into sharing their growing progress on social, which is easily done through snapping a photo of themselves. Typically you don’t think of guys taking selfies, but that’s what we found them doing so we recognize their efforts. The fit with Instagram was natural as it’s a very visual medium. ________________________________________Q: How has Instagram helped you more than other social networks, to connect with your consumers? A: We made the decision to keep our @Movember Instagram account a global channel (different than say our Facebook pages, which are divided up by country). It’s a unique opportunity for us, as a lot of other brands don’t have this presence. It’s allowed us to have a voice which is represented by content from all over the world. We feel it’s important for our Mo Bros and Mo Sistas to know they are supporting men’s health alongside others from 21 different countries and counting. ________________________________________Q: When posting a media, what is your Like/Comment threshold that makes it acceptable? A: We try not to focus on engagement thresholds – rather we want to make sure the quality of imagery is up to our standards.
