Scutosaurus karpinskii is one of the pareiasaurs, possible relatives of turtles that had spikes and thickened knobs around their skull. This animal, measuring roughly eight feet in length, lived during the Late Permian, about 253 million years ago. This fossil is located in the Museum's Hall of Vertebrate Origins.
