#12 Dream of Rackwick on the Isle of Hoy -
If you’ve come this far with me, through these many islands of the Inner and Outer Hebrides, and now up to Orkney, then you are hearty traveler and a seeker of great places, so I will tell you of one more. Go to Hoy, the island towering to the southwest, and cross over to the Rackwick Valley on the west side until you can drive no further. Then walk on to the the great beach of rounded and polished boulders. Most beaches are beautiful, and so is this one, but Rackwick is also haunting. The walk through the dune grass waving in the flowered machair sets the mood of anticipation, and the perfection of the boulders, polished though the eons speaks (to anyone who will listen) of timelessness. It is worth discovering for yourself. There are more of these places in these Scottish Isles. I hope you find them. #islandobsession #scotland
