My hair and skin are agreeing with my new morning juicing regimen ? Yesterday I posted the recipe for a liver detox juice that I put together and I received a lot of comments about how it's impossible to detox the body, and that the body detoxes itself. Just because the body detoxes itself doesn't mean that we can't eat things and take breaks from eating other things to help the process. In nursing school I learned about the importance of a "drug holiday". Taking a drug holiday is when you stop taking whatever medications you're taking, which of course shouldn't be implemented without the approval of your doctor. This helps the body to detox itself and prevents us from building a tolerance to the med. Now, just like we need a break from medications, I believe that we need to provide a break for our organs to keep them healthy and functioning properly. I am currently on a week long liver detox where I am omitting most animal products like chicken, beef, and dairy, and incorporating juicing into my mornings. I am also eating raw fruits and veggies 75% of my day and cutting down on coffee. The bulk of my protein Is coming from plant sources like brown rice and quinoa and fish. Every morning I have a cup of coffee (because I have a severe physical dependance to caffeine which is another problem in and of itself), every afternoon a green tea, and a dandelion tea at night which is known for its liver cleansing properties. Knowledge is power and I am trying to adopt a holistic way of living. Lately I have been under an immense amount of stress and I want to do everything in my power to preserve my health. Here are some signs and symptoms that indicate that you may need to help you liver detox: •Fatigue •Acne •Rosacea •Abdominal bloating & gas •Acid reflux •Overheating & excessive perspiration •Severe PMS •Discoloration of the whites of the eyes, skin and nails. •Trouble sleeping •The inability to cope with stress or calm down These are all vague symptoms that most people chalk up to the increased stressors of life so I do recommend that if you are already under treatment for any of these you consult your Dr. before beginning a cleanse. #fitandthicktip
